Let’s get all digital with the latest gadgets of today. Smatphone? Check! Tablet? Check! Laptop? Check! And *insert all the awesome gadgets you have here*? Check, check, check! Consider them as luxuries, but a lot of people will demand that they are now necessities. Admit it or not, these technologies have changed the way we live, and more likely, changed the world. Let’s have a retrospect about the gadgets that have changed the world and made it a better place—well, essentially.

#1: Personal Computer

Well, the personal computer is the one that sparked the computing technology into a wildfire. Most computing gadgets nowadays get more compact than ever. Talk about tablets, most people craze about buying iPad accessories just to optimize their tablet’s functionality. Remember your computing history? Back then, personal computers were operating, taking up a whole room or two. Evidently, portability has never been their feature. You have to be real keen about where you would place your computer, or else, you’ll catch your breath more often than not on relocating them just to be in the right spot. Sounds a lot of work, isn’t it? The Commodore PET (1977), the Apple II (1997), and the IBM PC (1981) were said to be the early PC models that sparked the computing to the masses.

#2: Telephone and mobile phone

Thanks to Alexander Graham Bell, communicating with people is just a few taps away. We can now relay information without all the hassles snail mail brings, and ring the people we care about through a telephone just to keep in touch with them. Even when people are oceans apart or perhaps just physically apart, conversations have become real-time now in this modern age. All thanks to apps like Skype, Facetime, and other apps that are now being utilized through the aid of the internet to have an instant face-to-face communication.

Those are the communication media we use at home, but what about outside? Now, we can welcome the mobile phone. In its name, the mobile phone is used not only just at home, but also when we are on-the-go—featuring mobility. Way back when it was first innovated, it was bulky, cumbersome, and somewhat an inconvenient device. But as time passes by, developers learned to re-innovate and tweak it to a more handy, multi-purpose, and efficient gadget—thus, people’s demands grew vastly as the mobile phone’s feature drastically changed—and still changing.

#3: Apple iPhone

Apple iPhone, you ask? Adding resolve to the subject, yes, it is. Although it isn’t the first mobile phone made, it sure did change the way we use mobile phones. Check your smartphone; does it have an LCD screen protector right at the screen? If it does, then you owe it to Apple. They were the ones who made the wave of touchscreen phones. The Apple then opened up the App Store to third-party developers that paved the way for Google, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, and *insert all the mobile brands here* to join the touchscreen era. And so, the ‘paradigm-shifting interface’ still prevails and is felt today.

These are just a few of the gadgets that have changed the way we live. Let the gadgets of yesteryears be valued as the gadgets of today.
